Sherry Morrow and Deb Schroeder are anticipating this year’s Give Where You Live campaign, in hopes of surpassing their 2017 goal of $6,163 donated to LoperCats.
An organization of 25 volunteers that feeds, spays or neuters, and vaccinates feral cats on the University of Nebraska at Kearney campus, LoperCats has created a safe home for our furry friends. The goals are to keep the cat population stabilized and maintain the health of the animals.
The group was thrilled with the $6,163 that LoperCats received from 15 donors through Give Where You Live and hopes to reach a goal of $10,000 this year.
Give Where You Live is a 24-hour giving event powered by the Kearney Area Community Foundation that allows donors to give to nonprofits in the Kearney area.
“I can’t imagine how many thousands of kittens we’d have running around without this program,” Morrow said.
Morrow, an assistant professor of industrial technology at UNK, “stumbled into” the problem of feral cats on the UNK campus 19 years ago. Since then, she has trapped over 100 cats and paid cash from her own pocket to have them spayed or neutered and vaccinated at either Riverside Animal Hospital or West Villa Animal Hospital.
Donations will be used for medical care and food for the UNK feral cats and to maintain feeding stations. Donors simply may go to www.givewhereyoulive.net and donate online today through midnight Dec. 6.
